Since our founding, Family Tree has relied heavily on the contributions of volunteers. As a matter of fact, the founding members of Family Tree were ALL volunteers! Today, volunteers continue to be highly valued and are an integral part of our clinic. We offer a couple of different volunteer positions to fit individual needs.
Volunteer Patient Educators talk with patients about birth control methods and use, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, emergency contraception, and offer pregnancy options counseling. They provide information and resources, answer patients’ questions, and make them feel more comfortable in the clinic. When not with patients, volunteer educators help with small administrative tasks around the clinic. Volunteer Patient Educators are asked to commit to one 3-hour shift per week, either in the morning, afternoon or evening for at least six months and are required to attend training sessions before volunteering. If you are interested in volunteering at Family Tree, email Anna at apopinchalk@familytreeclinic.org.
Once a month, volunteers are needed to help make Safer Sex Kits that our Community Health Educators will pass out in the community. These kits include 2 condoms, water based lube, information on Family Tree Clinic, how to correctly use condoms, prevent STIs, access Emergency Contraception, and contact the MN Family Planning & STD Hotline. If you are interested in being contacted about future Safer Sex Kit assembly opportunities, please contact Lindsey at lindsey@familytreeclinic.org.
